“When King Darius decreed that no one would be able to pray to any god or human, other than the king — they would be put in the lion’s den — Daniel held to his convictions. He simply, and quietly, as he had before, continued praying to YHWH. He didn’t try to change the decree or fight with the King, though he could have, as King Darius favored Daniel. Of course, we know Daniel was spared and the King set out a new decree that no gods would be worshiped except for YHWH. The hard thing is having the patience to be at peace with the convictions (and burdens) we have. Transformative change rarely happens over a short time and even more rarely through the use of force or coercion.”
