Donald Miller and Steve Taylor on Blue Like Jazz Movie
“What God does,” explains Don, “is he uses poetic grunts — poetic utterances — to say, ‘I am like a sheep to a shepherd. I am like a king to a subject. I am like a bride to a bridegroom.’
“Is he a bride to a bridegroom? No. Is he like a bride to a bridegroom? Yes. … And so I literally think of love, sex, sunsets, physics as little things that we sort of chew on and go, ‘God is like…’ And the whole world is this sort of educational playground — all the way from quantum physics and string theory down to your school crush that you had. All of it is God saying, ‘Unh!’ And we get to live and play in that world as a way of understanding him.”
