Coding Curious Automatic
As a background RSS downloader, TVShows used to be king. It hasn’t been updated in ages, so I had resorted to just using a regular RSS client and manual downloading.
I forgot how much that sucks as soon as I recently came across Automatic from Coding Curious.
The “Quick Start Guide & Tips” document it comes with is easy to follow. I give it the goods from tvRSS and plug in some TV show names. In no time at all, I enjoy a DVR experience right from the comfort of my Mac.
Seriously, if you are looking for an RSS downloader that supports podcasts, BitTorrent .torrent files, and pretty much anything else to which you can subscribe, this is it.
The best part is what it doesn’t do:
Automatic has been designed to be extremely lightweight and easy on the resources. It doesn’t even run all the time: instead, it launches only when it’s time to check for new content, and even then stays alive for a very brief time. Of course, you’ll never notice it!
The only thing I’ve noticed is a nice collection of television waiting for me when I want it.
